Despite a disappointing loss to the Carroll County Spartans last Sunday, the Flying Dogs are off to a hot 3-1 start. The credit for the wins has to go to the Flying Dog pitchers who after 4 games have allowed only 2 earned runs. Mother nature has not been kind to the Dogs as of late as the past 3 games have been postponed due to rain. Reschedules for those 3 games are pending.
Opening weekend the Dogs took 2 wins from a tough Baltimore Bobcats club.
Erik Hufnagel picked up the win in his Flying Dogs debut in game 1 fanning 10 batters over 4 innings pitched. Three other Flying Dogs combined to pitch the final 3 frames including
Tim Martin who pitched out of a bases loaded, no outs jam in the 5th by recording a strike out and then inducing a 4-6-3 double play.
Matt Buchholz and
Rich Ropp combined to pitch game two allowing only 2 runs over 7 innings.
The Dogs dropped the first game of last weekends twin bill against the hosting Carroll County Spartans. The Spartans capitalized on several defensive miscues by the Flying Dogs on their way to a 4-3 victory. The lone bright spot for the Flying Dogs was
Chris Fulda who went 3-3 with a double and his first homerun of the season.
Brian Moore took the hard luck loss while Erik Hufnagel continued to rack up the K's, recording 6 more in the final 3 frames.
In game 2 the Flying Dogs reversed their fortune in route to a 12-1 victory shortened by the mercy rule. Spartans pitchers struggled to find the strike zone while Chris Fulda's bat remained hot adding 3 more doubles on the day. Rich Ropp picked up his first win as a Flying Dog fanning 7 batters over 3 innings of work.
